Glove Box Light Switch for Classic Fords (C3AZ-14413B)
This glove box light switch from Auto Krafters is a replacement for Ford part number C3AZ-14413B. It’s the little plunger switch and bulb socket that turns on the glove compartment light when you open the door. I put one in my 1966 Mustang after the original quit working.

How a Glove Box Light Switch Works
The switch mounts in a hole at the side of the glove box opening. When the door is closed, it presses the plunger in and the light stays off.
Open the door, the plunger pops out, and the bulb on the tip lights up the glove compartment. It’s a simple single-wire design.
What You Get
The switch and bulb socket come together as one unit, ready to install. Mine had the little bulb right on the tip, and it was inexpensive compared to most restoration parts.
Which Cars It Fits
Ford used this same switch across a lot of its 1960s cars. This replacement is listed for:
- 1965–1968 Ford Mustang
- 1967–1968 Mercury Cougar
- 1964–1965 Ford Fairlane
- 1963–1969 Ford Galaxie
- 1964–1969 Mercury Monterey, Marauder, Colony Park, Park Lane, Montclair and Marquis
Compare your original part to the listing before you order, especially if your car has had parts swapped over the years.

Installing a Glove Box Light Switch
My original switch was busted and didn’t work at all. Swapping it only took a few minutes.
- Disconnect the battery before working on any wiring.
- Pull the old switch out of its hole and unplug its wire.
- Connect the single wire to the new switch.
- Push the new switch into the hole until it seats.
- Reconnect the battery and test it by opening and closing the glove box door.
If you’re replacing the glove box liner at the same time, put the switch in first. The new liner has a small clear window that lines up with the bulb, so the light shines right through. I covered that whole job in my guide to installing a Mustang glove box insert.
Why It Is Worth Replacing
A working glove box light is one of those small details that makes a classic feel complete. It’s especially handy at night when you’re digging for your registration or a flashlight.
It’s also a cheap part. For the price, there’s no reason to live with a dark glove box.
Troubleshooting a Glove Box Light That Won’t Come On
Before you order a new glove box light switch, it’s worth running through a few quick checks. Sometimes the problem is something simpler.
- Check the bulb. A burned-out bulb is the most common reason the light stays dark.
- Check the plunger. Make sure it moves freely and pops out when the door opens.
- Check the wire. Look for a loose, corroded, or broken connection at the switch.
- Check the fuse. If other interior lights are out too, the problem may be upstream of the switch.
If the bulb is good and the wire has power, but the light still won’t come on, the switch itself is likely worn out. That’s exactly what happened with my original.
Pair It With a New Glove Box Liner
On a 1965 or 1966 Mustang, the light shines through a small window in the cardboard glove box liner. If your liner is torn or missing that window, the light won’t do much good.
I replaced both at the same time. If yours is worn out too, take a look at the Mustang glove box liner I used.
Final Thoughts on This Glove Box Light Switch
If your glove box light switch is broken, missing, or unreliable, this Auto Krafters replacement is an easy fix. It fits a wide range of 1960s Fords and Mercurys, and it installs in minutes.
